Not only was I completing a requirement, I also became more knowledgeable in terms of professions since the pros and cons came up as I wrote those posts.

In terms of media literacy, I know that there would still be room for improvement but so far, I am contented enough with what I have at hand. As they say, "Pratice makes perfect." and writing entries do serve as practice for my development as a person who is media literate. Considering yourself a media literate is something to be proud of since being one means having the right knowledge about media and its propagandas. Eversince the year started, I know that I have gone a long way from my media illiterate self.

The fact that this is the last entry I will be creating just dawned unto me and I cannot believe that this is all coming to an end. I enjoyed writing freely about media-related things and once I click the publish button, that freedom somewhat goes away too. This Media Log has been a really wonderful experience and so, thank you, Miss Platon for giving this project to us, juniors.

Medical Investigation

Of the many options for profession out there, I think that medicine best suits me. As a kid, I was always encouraged by my whole family to become a doctor and so, I made up my mind purely at my own will that I will indeed be one. Being a doctor gives us the chance to make a difference at least to one's life and hopefully, help a lot of people. In some odd way, though there are numerous doctors, being one still makes us atypical. Shows based on the life of doctors inspire me even more to be one and so, for my last entry, I will comment on Medical Investigation.

Medical Investigation is a television show which features doctors from the National Institute of Health who look into rare and serious diseases. It might look rather boring than exciting but I find it interesting enough. The sicknesses they deal with are not even a bit close to the ones we are familiar with. The setting is surely admirable with the complexity of the medical facilities. The television series completely gives its viewers the aura of a hospital. Also, the setting is exceptionally modern which makes it a little more attention-grabbing for younger viewers like me. Teen issues like peer pressure are touched by this show too. It is not purely on the serious and medical side of things and in fact, it also presents the reality of life.

Try watching Medical Investigation and remember that first impressions do not last.

Cheaper by the Dozen

More or less, everybody enjoys sports, whether playing one or simply watching one. The players obviously get all the limelight and most likely, not much is left for the coach. That thought is simply disturbing since the coach is behind the triumph of the team. Good thing, the movie Cheaper by the Dozen proves this thought wrong though since it features how it is to be a coach.

The plot starts with an unusual family of fourteen which means there are exactly a dozen kids. Tom, who is a football coach, gets a job offering which calls for them to move out of the rural life. The chaos then sets off afterwards. The story is quite entertaining at first but kind of loses the viewers towards the end. Honestly, I think that the actors barely did a good job. Even though Hilary Duff, Tom Welling and Ashton Kutcher who we all know are looked up by a lot of teenagers, it wasn't enough to make the public consider Cheaper by the Dozen above mediocre. Nonetheless, the movie tries to inculcate to its viewers that selfishness is never a good thing and the family must be put at the top of one's list at all times.

If you do watch the film, feel free to let me know what your verdict is.

Freaky Friday

Problems are naturally part of one's life and it has been a fact for a very long time now. Actually, a day does not even pass without it and somehow, people eventually got used to it. Though there are others who unfortunately, need the help of professionals a.k.a. psychologists who have been negatively connoted in our society. It is just now that their services are proudly availed. One movie which shows them in a positive light is Freaky Friday.

Freaky Friday is a teen flick about a mother and her daughter switching bodies through a Chinese fortune cookie. Their story is pretty typical, everything the mom does seems to ruin her daughter's life. The plot is undeniably funny and likeable and it is able to keep you hanging the whole time. Relating to it is not a problem since it deals with a situation which every teenager out there in a way, goes through. Also, the actors contributed to the success of the movie with their convincing acting. The casting was done perfectly since the actors are very much known and popular especially to teenagers such as Lindsay Lohan and Chad Michael Murray. Beyond the comedic side of the movie, it is capable of instilling a value or two such as do not be too self-centered.

Watch Freaky Friday and learn to put yourself in other's shoes.

America's Next Top Model

I remember the times when I used to play Barbie dolls all the time. I would dress them up, feed them, make them work and eventually, put them to sleep and that would make my day. Everything seemed so perfect in that world. People say models are like Barbie dolls since they are oh-so-pretty, oh-so-thin and maybe, oh-so-perfect. Then again, who can be perfect?

America's Next Top Model (ANTM) is a reality show in search for models which is hosted by a supermodel herself, Tyra Banks. This show makes the viewers see the real life of a model and with that, we become aware of a lot of things and these things might even break a few myths for us. Watching the show made me realize that models are not actually perfect just like everybody else. Yes, they do look pretty on pictures and advertisements, but insecurity and life's problems get into them too. This is significantly important since our society today looks up to them too much which becomes a bad thing especially for teenagers. Teenagers go through diets and buy expensive clothes, just to name a few. Through ANTM, teenagers get a grip of the reality that models are just like normal people, just like them.

Give ANTM a try and realize that models are not exactly Barbie dolls.

Tuesdays with Morrie

There is this one profession which I cannot help but admire every single day and that is teaching. I know a thing or two about teachers since I am with them almost everyday seeing that I am still a student. It is probably safe to say that being one is tiring and frustrating, at times, but nonetheless, satisfying and fulfilling. Come to think of it, teachers barely get the recognition they truly deserve and I believe that it is a comforting thought for them that someone at the least, remembers them and even holds them dear. One perfect example of such story can be seen in Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom.

Mitch has been living his life his way since he graduated from college but a person he sees in the television makes him change the path he has decided to take and the person is none other than his college professor, Morrie Schwartz who is about to die in a few months. Mitch then decides to visit his professor every Tuesday and just talk about living life. The story is very inspirational and it puts you in a very much reflective mood. To add to that, a lot of lessons are embedded in their conversations. Even though this book is apart from what I usually read, it was able to take a hold of my attention and fortunately, I was able to finish the whole book. It did not matter that I am only a teenager since relating to the story has not been a problem. Mitch Albom is a superb writer, without a doubt.

Spare this book an hour or two and see life in a different light.

Project Runway

If I would be given a chance of having a shopping spree, I would like it to be in a clothing store. Ever since I was kid, I had a thing for clothes which most likely, roots back to my Mom. Just the thought of buying new pieces of clothing comforts me even at the saddest moments. With that, I revere fashion designers since after all, they are the ones who make the clothes and there is this one show which focuses on them, for a change, Project Runway.

Project Runway is a show hosted by Heidi Klum which gives fashion designers a chance of a lifetime. In the course of the show, the very much talented designers get a chance to meet celebrities and famous designers and even get to learn things which can help them in their chosen career. One reason why the show is worth commenting on is the challenges given to the designers really make them think out of the box. It is definitely fun to watch people spilling out their creative juices on coming up with clothes. Plus, it gives us a glimpse of their life which consists of hectic schedules, sleepless nights and so much more interesting things. Another thing is we always see the lives of models but now through Project Runway, the spotlight is on the fashion designers too.

Watch Project Runway and let's give the fashion designers the credit they deserve.

A Lot Like Love

One of the rather popular hobbies and to some, profession, today is photography. I must admit that I am part of the huge crowd which finds it at the very least, appealing. Maybe you are asking what is so special about pictures and it is quite simple, you see. Pictures are one of the few ways to hold on to the significant moments in our lives. In relation to that, when photography comes into play, I am always reminded of the movie A Lot Like Love.

A Lot Like Love is simply a story of destiny or perhaps, twisted fate is the more appropriate word. The movie revolves around Oliver and Emily who are both photographers and their unusual love for each other. I would have to say that the plot is a bit unrealistic considering that it happened in the span of seven years. Also, it is primarily built on coincidences and accidents and we have to admit that in real life, no one is that lucky. Nevertheless, the casting was impressive which makes up for the plot. All in all, A Lot Like Love is a movie a lot will surely love.

Watch it and make yourself believe in twisted fates.

13 Going on 30

I am one of the many people who enjoy looking into magazines and scanning through the vibrant colored pages. Though, I admit that I think being a magazine editor is even ten times more fun than simply gazing through the work of others. I take pleasure in putting different things together, writing about significant topics and creating designs or layouts. Upon watching the teen flick 13 Going on 30, the desires of being a magazine editor even only as a side job increased.

The story sets off with Jenna's 13th birthday wherein she wishes to be seventeen years older. Much to her surprise, the magic wishing sparkles work and she is a 30-year-old woman with a job as a magazine editor in Manhattan, a grand apartment and a celebrity boyfriend the next day. Basically, the plot is very much light and even comedic which makes it all the more favorable. Perhaps, I can say that the actors did a good job too. Plus, the setting was very pleasing to the eyes and it helped make the movie cheerful. One good lesson I earned in this teen flick is what we want is not always the right thing for us. Sometimes, we have to put behind our own desires and just look at what we have.

Come on and enjoy your teen years with 13 Going on 30.

Prison Break

Frankly, I did not know a thing about structural engineers until I spent hours in front of the tube watching the infamous television series, Prison Break. Structural engineering is an addition to the fields of study which I find interesting and intriguing but I have no plan going into. It caught my attention since structural engineers are the ones who come up with the complex designed buildings we see today and well, such magnificent buildings completely fascinate me.

As the title of the television show suggests, the story deals with Michael Scofield getting into prison on purpose to save his brother, Lincoln Burrows, from his death sentence with the use of his structural engineering skills. With such storyline, the series is indeeed full of thrill and suspense. I never really put much interest in this genre of television shows but Prison Break has been an exception. An episode never fails to make my heart beat a little faster than usual and to leave me in awe. The actors are truly commendable too. Another thing which I consider impressive about the show is its setting. The setting is not just a simple cell in a prison but it shows the prison as a whole and even the most little details about it which I am guessing is not at all easy. Plus, this show makes its viewers think and with such great wit of Michael Scofield, it is able to somehow intimidate its viewers to think his way.

And so, expand your favored genres and watch Prison Break.

Introduction IV

I decided it is about time that I get in touch with my criticizing self and put this Media Log back to use for the last time this year.

Once again, I have a theme for this quarter's critiques but unlike the last time, I will cut the chase and just introduce to you what it is. A few weeks ago, the juniors experienced one of the highlights of third year which is the the Career Talk. It got into me and I thought of writing about the different careers for my Media Log and here I am now, taking the first step in doing so.

Hopefully, my entries this quarter will interest you as much as I will be enthusiastic and interested in writing them. Comments are very much welcome, of course.

Conclusion III

After coming up with 10 posts (yay for me), I now bring you this conclusion as the quarter is near to reaching its end.

First and foremost, I will finally reveal my theme for this quarter (that is if you have not guessed it yet). My Media Log for this quarter is composed of entries which revolve around traveling primarily because of my love for it. I just think that it will keep me more interested while doing this project if I write about it. I started with the bags which are essentials in traveling. Afterwhich, the different forms of transportation were featured such as airplanes, boats and cars. The last posts showcase either the places which I would love to go to (New York, Europe and Japan) or the places which I would want to go back to (Australia, Hong Kong and Los Angeles).

I came to realize that I have gone a long way in terms of media literacy thanks to the constant criticism I give to the different media which I am exposed to. Movies, books or such do not easily impress and please me anymore. I learned to look deeper into these things and to read between the lines of its messages. I can now say proudly that media can never manipulate or control me and instead, it will be the other way around.

The O.C.

The O.C. did not really interest me at first. Basically, the reason is that each episode which I happen to catch always ends in a fight. Yes, each one of them. Now, who would be watching a TV series as such?

Then again, our perceptions can always change. There came a time wherein I do not have anything to watch besides The O.C. and so, I decided to give it a second chance. Surprisingly, it amused me in some way. From then on, I started watching it.

The O.C. features the life of the rich and wealthy which I know, almost everyone wants to get a hold of. The story started to be typical and as the number of episodes increase, the story became more and more interesting. The events were just so unexpected which without a doubt, makes the series worthwhile to watch. The actors suited their characters pretty well, too. For instance, Ben McKenzie who plays Ryan, really does look like a troubled teenager and Mischa Barton on the other hand, really does look like a socialite.

The O.C. is a television series which must not be missed.

Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan

When I keyed in Japan in Getty Images, pictures came up and I saw one which caught my attention. The photograph perfectly suited what I had in mind about Japan.

According to the photographer, Grant Faint, the image was taken in Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan featuring rush hour commuters (blurred motion) last January 2006 in the evening. The photo makes me smile, certainly. Probably, this is all because of the rush the picture clearly depicts. I have always dreamt of having this kind of life, a busy life. Seeing other people in a hurry makes me see myself in the future.

This picture entirely fits Japan as I see it. Japan seems so modern to me and well, come to think of it, it really is modern. The picture shows city life which of course, counts as modern.

The way the photographer shot the photo is impressive and commendable. He caught the people in motion which adds to the drama of the photo. The bluriness of the photo also plays a great part in the photo. It even more sends the feeling of rush.

A city life is the life for me.

Source: Getty Images

So Close

I consider having a sister a good thing. Imagine, whoelse will be your shopping buddy, your companion and your listener 24/7. Plus, when you have a sister, you are assured of the fact that someone else always, and I mean always, has your back. The movie So Close shows just this.

The actors have done an impressive job on this movie and contributed a lot to make the movie such a success. Plus, with their looks, I bet no one can just ignore So Close. The stunts done were completely realistic and were nicely done. Actually, everything in the movie seems to be pretty possible in some odd way. The setting of the movie is to be noted too. It undeniably shows the modern side of Asia.

So Close is not all about action though. Behind all those fights, there are also things to be learned. One of which is sacrifice, there will aways be chances when we have to a little less self-centered and put more attention to other's needs.

All in all, the movie is remarkable. I think it can even go hand in hand with the Hollywood movies.

Finding Nemo

Honestly, animated films do not catch my attention most of the time. Again, I watched Finding Nemo by recommendation and I wasn't let down.

First off, the animation was done superbly and I know everyone who have seen the movie will agree with me on this one. Plus, Australia was even featured on this one. The plot touches a lot of realities which makes it more impressive. One of the said truths is the family is the most important thing in the world. Without it, a person is simply not complete and so, one will do anything just to gain back his family. In Finding Nemo's case, Nemo is taken away from his father, Marlin. Marlin then searches the deep water for his only family, his son. In the course of the movie, it was able to teach me a couple of things. First of which is that patience goes a long way. The things we want need to be worked hard for; there is no joy in getting our desires in a snap. Second, do not be afraid of risks. If we remain scared for our whole life, our life will just be put to waste. Taking risks does include putting out yourself in the open and I know it is not an easy thing to do but it will keep you from regrets since the things we regret are the things we did not do.

Who would have thought an animated movie can do all of this?

Angels and Demons

I never really liked thick books with little fonts and in fact, I used to hate them. It is a wonder to me why I headed to the bookstore and bought a copy of Angels and Demons as soon as I can. Then, I remember Ms Canivel recommended this book when I was still in freshman year and she said that this was a really good book and I believed her. Now, not only do I love Angels and Demons, I also came to like reading thick books with little fonts.

Dan Brown is without a doubt, a good writer. He kept me flipping and flipping the pages of his work which is a big surprise given the fact that I easily get bored when reading. The story was filled with mystery and you cannot possibly put down the book without knowing what is behind it all. Most importantly, twists are everywhere in the plot, expect the unexpected. He described the events and places in such a detailed manner that you can almost feel like the whole thing is happening right in front of you. The places mentioned seemed so wonderful that I wanted to see them right then and there. The fountains, paintings and The Vatican City are some of the said places. A very interesting and intriguing novel, indeed.

Angels and Demons is definitely a good read and missing it would be a real shame.

Little Manhattan

Teenagers and adults giving us ideas regarding love is pretty usual. Most of the movies out are based on this, that's why. Now, who would ever expect a movie showing love from a kid's perspective? Apparently, Little Manhattan is all about just that.

A story of love of eleven-year-olds in New York may sound lame and boring but it is the total opposite. The storyline is interesting and entertaining that it keeps you hanging around even if the credits already rolled in. The story is very much realistic throughout the movie. Everything these two eleven-year-olds do are normal and typical for their age but their is soemthing that distinguishes these actions from the rest. The way they demonstarated love was not at all mushy in any way and in fact, it was even cute. Not only does the plot make this movie a must-see, even the actors contributed to this thanks to their great acting.

This movie reminds us of innocence in a good note. Somehow it gives me a light feeling. I hope it gives you too.

Are We There Yet?

A guy who absolutely hates children gets stuck with two kids on a road trip. Not just any kids, I might add, rather the kids of the girl he likes who are completely out of control. I bet he cannot help but ask, "Are we there yet?"

The movie did manage to make me laugh a couple of times thanks to practical jokes which Nick and the kids threw to one another. Though come to think of it, besides that, what else can be enjoyed in the movie? The plot is pretty typical and common. Some parts will leave you looking at something else more interesting. Plus, the pranks shown in this movie are quite too much for children. It undeniably promotes violence which is ironic since Are We There Yet is supposed to be a family comedy. It would be a big surprise if you learned something from the movie besides do not copy what you see.

So, all I am saying is save yourself from this movie.

The Boat

Sometimes the world demands a lot, maybe even too much, from us. At these times, we just want to loosen up and unwind even for just a moment. A calming picture can do just that, right?

The photo shows a perfect day in the beach since the sun is up and it seems that nothing can go wrong. This surely qualifies as a 'perfect vacation' (if there is such). This picture may not appeal to others as much as it has attracted me. There is something about this picture that makes me feel serene and it just lifts up my spirit.

Everything in the picture contributes to the tranquility I feel each time I lay my eyes on it. The puffy, cotton-like clouds sends me comfort. The palm may seem to block the image in some way but I think it makes the image even more complete. The sand is very much inviting. I would give anything just to sit there and enjoy the heat. Even the boat looks tempting; it gives the idea that there is so much more to see.

A picture is never just a picture.

Source: http://s49.photobucket.com/albums/f272/sweettm43/?action=view¤t=087_87.jpg

The Terminal

A foreigner from Krakozhia lands in New York with the news that America is closed to him. He then literally lives in the airport for months with his desire waiting outside the doors. With such unique storyline which cannot possibly bore you, you would have guessed in a heartbeat that I will be writing about the movie The Terminal.

I would not deny that the primary reason behind my love for the said movie is the fact that I have always been fascinated with airports for as long as I can remember. I guess one possible reason is most of the people in airports are in a rush and honestly, I like feeling that way and I want to know that there are a lot of things ahead of me. The fact that airports are filled with happiness and excitement contributes to my fascination simply because those feelings are contagious! Who wouldn't want to feel the same, right?

The movie also indisputably teaches us lesson and no matter how much this lesson seems like a cliche, it does help us get through life. Never give up. What do you do when you fall down? Cry, breakdown, surrender? No, you need to get on with life because if you do not, life will move on without you. This is a true fact which I know is hard to live with. So, we better get on with our lives no matter what and who knows, maybe we'll get where we want to.

DB, C and LV

The title does not make sense, does it? To clue everyone in, I am referring to the very much pricey bags, Dooney and Bourke, Coach and Louis Vuitton.

Having the said brands of bags is a must for some people. What is it with these brands, anyway? Simply, owning one of these means a membership to the elite crowd.

Has media affected us completely? The answer is without a doubt, yes. Media has influenced us that much that we would do anything just to have what the A-listers have. We want to be like them; therefore, we desire to a get a hold of the things they have. Not only does this require us to spend extravagantly, it also causes frauds. Some people took advantage of this wanting through coming up with bags labeled as Dooney and Bourke, Coach and Louis Vuitton with such low prices. Keep in mind that not all the things we see in media must be incorporated in our lives. There are just some things that are only meant to be seen and not copied.

Introduction III

My critic duties are calling me once again which basically means that this Media Log will soon be filled with new opinions.

As promised, this quarter I have come up with a theme. One of them is on the contrary to my first conclusion, media can sometimes provide a glimpse of the real world which is not exactly always fun and happy. I came to know this through my post entitled 'Go Ask Alice' and 'Where is Mima from?'; therefore, I am now aware of the not-so-good things which do happen. Furthermore, I recognized that even a simple media can mean a lot of things. The lessons of life which I believe I wrote in each of my entries are enough proof for this. Indeed, media have embedded values. Discussing the propaganda techniques in advertising not only in Media but also in Health paved way for me to realize another thing. Humor goes a long way and I showed this through the funny and adorable commercials I cannot help but comment on. Lastly, media can at times remind us of our feelings for a certain time. Media is capable of conveying different emotions which is completely useful and handy since it is able to make someone shift from feeling blue to feeling happy again.

Even though media has its cons, most of the time, I consider media helpful and a part of my life. I cannot imagine the world without it.

Fita Spreadz Commercial

The setting is a crowded place, possibly an MRT station. A guy proudly opens a pack of biscuits and suddenly starts boasting his pack of biscuits to everyone. Afterwhich, each person now opens the same pack of biscuits. To hide his embarassment, the guy then tries to imitate the possible reaction of the other people.

Sounds familiar? Of course and even without my title, you would have guessed I am writing about the commercial of Fita Spreadz.

This commercial never fails to make me giggle (or maybe that is only me since I am shallow and I easily laugh) and I am pretty sure you also laughed at this for a couple of times. Admit it or not, the story is hilarious. Team that up with an actor who is really convincing and reliastic, surely, you'll have a good commercial. Plus, this commercial shows something positive about the Filipinos. We are, in nature, cheerful and happy persons even though from what I heard that the surveys tell that this applies to less and less Filipinos. To add to that, this commercial teaches us one attitude we must keep in mind which is we cannot be always serious every single time, we have got to learn to have fun and enjoy ourselves. Though limits and the right time will always be there.

So I guess, when you are feeling down, watch this commercial and perhaps you will feel a lot better.

Coca-Cola Commercial

Commercials are supposed to be catchy enough to prevent the viewer from changing channels. A perfect example of which is the new Coca-Cola Commercial.

Basically, the commercial sets off when a guy buys a Coke through the vending machine and as he slips his coin, a new world emerges. Cute characters suddenly appear with different tasks to perform to produce the well-known soda. Towards the ending, the coke is still paraded.

Without a doubt, it is able to grab anyone's attention. With its very much adorable animations, captivating music and original story, any viewer cannot possibly miss this. Beyond the superficial, it shows that everything matters. The things we consider simple may be a lot more than that to others. Coke comes effortlessly nowadays and this commercial shows that on the contrary, it is not that easy to come up with Coke. We often take things for granted, things that we think we can easily take a hold of. Once again, this commercial expresses that at the very least, we must appreciate what we have. Since usually, the simple things are the ones which matter most.

Excuselist.com

When we do not want to do favors for others without offending anyone or making ourself look bad, we tend to make up 'things' to avoid these favors. These 'things' we come up with are often referred to as excuses. Probably, all of us used a couple of excuses, right?

To my surprise, I found a website which offers excuses for almost anything through another site which features new sites. Who would ever thought an excuse site exists? The idea sounded really hilarious that I did not take it seriously. I thought this is just one of the joke sites which are popular today. Unpredictably, some people, indeed, use the excuses from this site.

I wanted to know what these excuses are. To stop my curiosity, I visited the site and obviously, the site greeted me with an excuse which is not really what I expected it to be, funny. I decided to click excuses for school to find out more. As I read on, the excuses seemed even more lame and senseless for me; not even one made me laugh. I cannot grasp its sense of humor. Visiting this site was a complete waste of time.

I guess this is still a good thing, right? Excuses must be avoided anyway.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants is a movie for friends, figuratively and literally speaking. It is definitely worth watching and the plot revolves around, of course, true friendship.

The casting could not have been done better. The actors met their character's description perfectly. Plus, the places where the movie was shot are absolutely beautiful. With an amazing cast and plot, you must agree with me that the movie must not be missed.

Furthermore, I came to realize a dozen things through the book turned into movie of Ann Brashares. Things do not always go our way and sometimes, things go out of hand and are far beyond our control; it is all just part of life. When things do not fall into thier supposed place, it does not mean we cannot enjoy life anymore. Since if you take it that way, happiness is therefore just an illusion or a dream. So better yet, when things do not go according to plans, find ways to still enjoy what is at hand and have fun. Of course, put in mind that there are friends who can always help us through these times.

Where is Mima from?

Here is an excerpt of Episode 19 of The OC Season Three you might want to read.

CUT TO: Roberts' house - Julie opens the front door to let the moving guys out.
Julie: Thank you (hands them money) you did a wonderful job, thank you. (smiles, waves) Bye. (Julies closes the door behind them and looks around herself, almost surreally. She smiles and jumps up and down excitedly just as the housekeeper comes down the stairs. Julie makes a fist as if to say "yes" then spins around and does a little squeal. Julie stops and looks at the housekeeper who is staring at her.)
Julie: (smiles) Hola Mima. (Mima looks at her) Es bueno (raises eyebrows) (Mima looks at her) vamanos por favor. (smiles)
Mima: I'm from the Philippines.
Julie: Oh, well, then. I guess you can tell what it is.

Sure, I should be used to hearing this since majority of the hardworking OFWs are domestic helpers which is not exactly a bad thing. The thing is let us also admit that there are Filipinos who undeniably raised our flag in other ways. Then again, what do we hear about the Philippines? Why are we supposed to be only known for that instead of being known to be great in other aspects too?

Then again, I recall I also heard our country from One Tree Hill. Sadly and as expected, they are not talking about our country on its bright side. Instead, read on and find out.

[Lucas's room: Lucas is getting ready for the game and Keith walks in]
Keith: Hey, I, uh, got you some tape.[He throws the tape and Lucas easily catches it]
Keith: For the tattoo. You gotta cover it for the game, right?
Lucas: Thanks. I appreciate it.
Keith: Let me see it.[Lucas pulls up the arm of his shirt so Keith can see it. Usually, these times consist or rather imply happy memories. Just like the picture below.

Seeing this photo undeniably brought back my childhood which I can proudly say was truly blissful. Those were the days of ear-to-ear grins, all-day laughs and a carefree life. Do you remember yours too through this splendid piece of art? I hope you do. To add to that, this photo makes me want to ask someone to take me (I meant to say hop on the car and drive but as you can see, that is quite impossible seeing I neither have a car nor a license :D) to the nearest theme park and ride a ferris wheel.

Looking at the photo more closely, notice the different colors visible. Just the variety of colors seen makes me feel gay and relaxed inside. Even for just the time I spared looking at this picture, I forgot my troubles and worries. Sometimes, we all just need to put things away for a while and breathe, right?

Go Ask Alice by Anonymous

Go Ask Alice is a book showing a teen-aged girl's story. Sounds pretty usual and common? I thought so too but reading the next paragraph, hopefully, will intimidate you to read the book and will make you agree with me that this book deserves an entry.

This is actually a diary of a girl who somehow used and eventually got addicted to drugs. Most importantly, Go Ask Alice is acclaimed to be nonfictional (though some sources say it is in fact fictional). 'Alice' is just like every other girl there is but one drink changes her good life into a life she never could have imagined.

Honestly, I read the book out of curiosity. I just wanted to know what certain things can happen once you take drugs. Surprisingly, I got what I wanted and my questions were definitely answered. The best part is it's settled that I wouldn't dare try one (though in 'Alice's' case, it wasn't her choice) which now sounds like a cliche.

Go Ask Alice teaches us a lesson in life we must always bear in mind. Life is indeed full of uncertainties, and yes, uncertainties make our life exciting and worth living, but this also means we have to be extra careful.

PS, The book cover scares me a bit so I decided not to post it here.

How To Save a Life by The Fray

How To Save a Life is one of the very few songs I immediately added to my playlist upon hearing. Okay, the reason I like it is its very catchy tune that makes you hum it all day but if that reason is not good enough, as I think it is, I have two other reasons to give you.

The song talks not about the usual topic, love, but in fact it talks about friendship for a change. This is the second reason why I love this song. It is set apart from the usual songs I hear today. The lyrics is not actually easy to decipher and understand. At first, I even thought the song is about love yet after reading the lyrics and listening to it a couple of times, I was able to figure out what it means. Basically, it expresses a story of a genuine friend not giving up on his, well, friend and yes, the story struck me deeply. I don't want to spoil everything so the rest is up to you to figure out.

This last reason may seem not as significant as the second but it surely means a lot to me. This song just makes me remember my dear seatmates and of course, friends, yes, I'm referring to you Anaelle and Rachel, and the fun we always have especially singing, if I can call it that, this song.

Introduction II

After a month of silence, the hopeful-to-be-critic is back. Happily and yes, I admit, finally, this Media Log is back on its feet.

I figured I will not be focusing on any particular media this quarter. I'll save it for the next quarters to come. So just like the previous quarter, I'll write about anything that catches my eye. First, I really enjoy commenting on media. I came to prove to myself that no media can ever please everybody everytime through the posts I made regarding the media I like and the media I hate. Also, we all view media differently. Sure, some may find similarities with other people in terms of their remarks, but the way we percieve a specific quote, scene, photo or line will always be unique. I know we find lots of life's lessons on various media and we try to apply them all in our life, believing we'll have a better existence. Then again, remember that not all we see are true. Media gives us a chance to live in a world we dream of. No matter what happens, we should never let media run our life. It will only just give us a false reality.

I guess this ends my Media Log for this quarter.

Hear You Me by Jimmy Eat World

Those who watched the second season of the television series One Tree Hill and the movie A Cinderella Story are probably familiar with this song.

Discussing the poem Song to Celia by Ben Jonson made me remember Hear You Me. In fact, the reason is the said poem and Hear You Me have the same message. Both of them tell us to do possibly everything you can, grasp every opportunity that comes your way and live each day as if it is your last. I believe those three are a must. Just imagine, a single thing you did not do can change your whole life. What you only get from not doing it is regrets. To add to that, you can never turn back time. Do you want to live a life full of regrets? Of course not. Doing that specific thing may require summing up all of your courage and that is definitely hard to do, but I know it is also better than staying on your comfort side forever and wondering what might have been.

Try to read the lyrics of this song and hopefully, you'll realize how important it is to seize the moment.

High School Musical

If you have never seen or at the very least heard of High School Musical, you're probably kidding.

When I saw the trailer last summer, I wasn't really eager to watch the movie. The story seems shallow, boring, and honestly, childish. I thought the movie is just mediocre.

Then, I was proved wrong.

The movie has loads of funny scenes to offer. The story does lie between shallow and deep, but you cannot possibly deny that the theme is actually great. Sometimes you just have to do something you really want even if it's a million miles far from who you've been. It spices up your life and lets you know who your real friends are. Life gets a bit more interesting, wouldn't you want that?

High School Musical is absolutely my current feel-good movie. Just seeing this movie gives me a reason to smile and somehow makes me feel better. This photo is not like anything you have ever seen. The sky, the sea and the land are one. Apparently, everything is possible. Dreamy I say, agree?

It gives a feeling of pure tranquility, something almost all of us long for. It makes you forget the existence of the word "problem." A place like this perfectly fits my description of paradise. Just seeing this scene proves euphoria is possible. I say this is heaven on earth.

Is this picture too good to be true? They are found everywhere and are easily accessed by anyone. Personally, I like icons. They are able to somehow show emotions which are hard to express. Okay, so I do not have any problem with the icons actually, the words on this specific icon I have.

I felt sad upon reading this icon. The message is in fact kind of dark. Only, the colors used do not give such impression and just glancing but not reading this image does not make you feel the way I felt. The fact that someone actually feels this way appalled and bothered me a lot. Is this how we see people now? Are all people liars or posers? Can we ever find someone we can trust?

One thing is for sure, I know this icon does not apply to me.

Big City

I have always loved pictures of cities at night. The sight of skyscrapers and bright lights makes me ecstatic and thrilled. Seeing this gives me the feeling of security and safety I know I cannot find anywhere else. I guess what I just said is ironic since usually, a big city gives a feeling of uncertainty.

It is just that I have always fancied living in big, industrious and modern cities. I dream of a fast-paced life and I know this kind of city can, without questions asked, give it to me. Challenges are here and there. It will be like I'm always fighting for survival. I would love to have that life. A laid-back lifestyle would bore me to death.

This picture gives me a glimpse of my future and that is the reason why I like this picture a lot.

Dating Disaster

Just to make things clear, I have nothing against dating shows and I do not despise them generally. Only, existing are some shows I honestly consider rubbish. I have two at hand namely:

1. Blind Date
- What I hate about this show is the effects it uses. The pictures, sounds and words added to the videos make the people in the show seem very much indecent. Besides, the show uses these to portray a specific message, generalizing the people's emotions and meanings. Who knows the person means it in completely another or different way? Maybe I'd consider watching it if the effects are omitted.

2. Change of Heart
- Mainly, the concept of this show I dislike. Why do you have to let the whole world know the flaws of your partner? Why do you make your partner jealous in public? Do you essentially have to date other people to realize how much you really love your partner?

I saw both of these shows only once and I never will again.

Hubble Bubble

As sure as I can ever be, you heard the saying, "Do not judge a book by its cover." Figuratively, it signifies the cliche that you must first know the person before you conclude who he really is. In this case, I mean the quote literally. Ever heard of people who buy or read books just because the cover is eye-catching and attractive? Surprise, surprise, I am one of those people.

Hubble Bubble has a cover which is absolutely attention-grabbing that you would want just to stare at it for a couple of seconds. Since the attractiveness of the cover of the book captivated me and the summary at the back implies that the book is somehow interesting, I bought the book without second thoughts.

Upon reading the first couple of pages, I just wanted to throw the book. I could not stand it. The way it was written annoys me a lot and it was a total bore. I say the book was just a waste of money and the time I spent reluctantly reading the few pages, hoping the story gets better was useless. I never finished the book and even a chapter.

Then again, these are only my thoughts and maybe, just maybe, you'll like the book.

One Tree Hill

One Tree Hill at first glance seems average and similar to other teen shows, but it has millions of things to offer which other shows definitely cannot. I would love to give the summary of the show just to prove how brilliant the story is, but then that is not the purpose of my media log. Let us just say that the story line is absolutely extraordinary that it is able to manage viewers to ask for more every single time the credits roll in even if the show is in its third season. The plot is anything but shallow and mediocre once you are able to look past the attractiveness of the actors and actually listen to what they are saying. The thing I enjoy most about this show is that the audience get a hold of the most sensible, genuine and useful quotes there is. Emotions are heartfelt thanks to the writers, actors and music editors.

If you have never seen an episode of One Tree Hill before, you are definitely missing out in life.

If You Could See Me Now

Having read Cecelia Ahern's PS, I Love You and Rosie Dunne, I was anticipating her third book and the moment If You Could See Me Now was released, I bought it with the assurance that I will be reading something commendable.

As expected, the book is superb that I can go all day long praising it. The way the book was written is entertaining and amusing since she kept on using the phrase "is by far my favorite" and it was not annoying as it may sound. Plus, I was able to clearly picture the story when in fact, I am not one of the gifted people whose imagination is overflowing. The plot is not similar to the usual ones which seems to be on every single book, so better find out what I mean.

If You Could See Me Now primarily evolves around faith, believing in things you cannot see and most of all, believing in yourself and other people around you. The book shows the undying and favorite topic, love. The book lets us see that love usually occurs on the least expected time and sometimes with the least expected person; therefore, displaying the true power of love. Love is able to make you do things you wanted to but never had the courage to do so, brings happiness and most importantly, teaches you to sacrifice.

Without a doubt, I am giving 5 stars for If You Could See Me Now.

Introduction

Being a critic has always been appealing for me. Stating the obvious, await to read about a variety of media throughout the year.
